Gym Battle Hacks: The Best Pokemon for Gym Takeovers (Pokemon Go)

Taking over gyms in Pokemon Go can be a fun and challenging aspect of the game. You can take over a gym and input your own Pokemon to defend the gym where you can reap additional rewards. You will receive additional spin rewards as well as up to 50 Poke Coins for defending a gym.

In order to defend or battle for a gym, you will need to choose a team.

In Pokémon Go, there are three different teams that players can join. These teams are:

  1. Team Valor (represented by the color red)
  2. Team Mystic (represented by the color blue)
  3. Team Instinct (represented by the color yellow)

When players reach level 5 in the game, they are given the opportunity to choose which team they want to join. Once they have joined a team, they can participate in Gym battles and earn rewards for their team. Each team has its own strengths and weaknesses, and players can choose the one that best aligns with their own values and play style.

If a gym has less than 6 Pokemon, you will be able to simply put yours in. But be sure to put a strong one as this Pokemon will be helping to defend your gym!

In Pokémon GO, the CP (combat power) of your Pokémon is an important factor in gym battles. Make sure to use Stardust and Candy to power up your Pokemon to increase its CP and make it even more effective in battles.

Rhyperior can also be a good choice for taking over gyms in Pokémon GO, as it has high Attack and Defense stats, and a number of useful moves.

First, make sure that your Rhyperior has a good moveset. Some recommended moves for Rhyperior in Pokémon GO include Smack Down and Rock Wrecker for dealing damage to opponents, and Earthquake for a strong ground-type attack.

Second, be mindful of the type matchups. Rhyperior is a ground/rock type, which means it is weak to water, grass, ground, fighting, and steel type attacks. So be sure to choose Rhyperior only against opponents that it has a type advantage against.

Finally, consider using Rhyperior as part of a well-rounded team that includes other strong Pokémon with different types and move sets. This will help you take on a variety of opponents and increase your chances of successfully taking over the gym.

Rhyperior does especially well against Dragons, which you will see a lot of in gyms.

I can’t stress enough how important Machamp is to your arsenal for a variety of uses, especially for taking over gyms. Many times I’d simply have a Machamp solo my way into taking over the gym.

Machamp is a popular choice for gym takeovers in Pokémon GO due to its high Attack and Defense stats, and a great moveset that can be effective against many different types of Pokémon.

Choose the right moveset: Machamp is a Fighting-type Pokémon, so its Fighting-type moves like Counter and Dynamic Punch are the most effective in gym battles. Other recommended moves include Close Combat.

Take advantage of Machamp’s strengths: Machamp is strong against Normal, Rock, Steel, Ice, and Dark-type Pokémon, so try to use Machamp against opponents that it has a type advantage against to make battles easier and quicker.

Be mindful of Machamp’s weaknesses: Machamp is weak against Flying, Psychic, and Fairy-type Pokémon. Avoid using Machamp against opponents that have these types or are likely to use these types of moves.

You will see that many gym occupants will have normal type Pokemon which are weak to fighting types. The likes of Slaking, Blissy, and many more will be taken down quickly when a Machamp it’s opponent.

Garchomp is a powerful Dragon/Ground-type Pokemon that can certainly be useful in taking over gyms.

Know Garchomp’s strengths: Garchomp has high Attack and Defense stats, making it a good choice for battles. Its Dragon and Ground typing also gives it some useful resistances and immunities.

Consider Garchomp’s moveset: Garchomp can learn a variety of moves, but some of the most useful ones for gym battles are Dragon Tail and Outrage (for its Dragon typing) and Earthquake (for its Ground typing).

Overall, Garchomp can be a great choice for taking over gyms in Pokemon Go. Just be sure to use it strategically and as part of a well-rounded team.

If you raise the CP of the these Pokemon and use them the next time you battle a gym, you will see simply how easy it is to take it for your team!
