Introducing Shadow Raids and Raid Bosses in Pokémon Go’s Rising Shadows Event

Pokémon Go continues to evolve and captivate trainers with its exciting updates and events. Among the most recent additions to the game is the highly anticipated Rising Shadows event, introducing Shadow Raids and Shadow Raid Bosses. This article will offer some information and tips to these new features, shedding light on the Shadow Raids and why you should be excited for it.

Shadow Raids

In Pokémon Go’s Rising Shadows event, trainers will encounter a brand-new raid experience: Shadow Raids. These special raids present an opportunity to face off against powerful Shadow Raid Bosses, Pokémon corrupted by the influence of Team GO Rocket.

Unlike regular raids or Mega raids, Shadow Raids differ in their level of difficulty and the unique rewards they offer in offering you an opportunity to catch powerful or rare Shadow Pokemon! Trainers will need to muster their skills, assemble a team of other trainers, and bring their best battle strategies to overcome these formidable opponents.

Shadow Raid Bosses

Shadow Raid Bosses are shadowy versions of familiar and legendary Pokémon, twisted by Team GO Rocket’s malevolent influence. Similar to the Pokemon you encounter after defeating a Team Go Rocket member, these bosses possess enhanced strength and exhibit a darker aura, making them a formidable challenge for even the most experienced trainers.

Each Shadow Raid Boss has a powerful moveset and heightened combat stats, likely requiring trainers to come together and employ effective type matchups and strategic battle tactics to emerge victorious.

Before this announcement, the realm of Shadow Legendary Pokémon was confined to Special Research Tasks and Giovanni encounters. While previously, obtaining Shadow Legendary Pokémon was limited to these very limited events, trainers now have the opportunity to encounter and capture even more Shadow Legendary Pokémon, including the highly sought after Mewtwo.

So if you’d have a bad IV roll from completing your Special Research Tasks for Shadow Legendaries, this is great news for you! Shadow Pokemon have easily become some of my go-to’s for a variety of battle situations due to their higher attack stats.

Benefits of Shadow Pokemon

You may not want to purify your Shadow Pokemon. Shadow Pokemon are more powerful than regular or Purified Pokemon due to their higher attack stats. However, this comes at a cost with a 20% lower defense stat

This is  however a very fair tradeoff as the increased attack stats of Shadow Pokémon make them particularly valuable assets for raid battles. Raids often involve confronting powerful and resilient raid bosses, requiring trainers to maximize their damage output within the limited time frame. Shadow Pokémon’s enhanced attack prowess can prove instrumental in swiftly depleting raid boss health bars, enabling trainers to secure valuable rewards and successfully complete challenging raids.

What Are Purified Gems?

In the intense battles of Pokémon Go’s Shadow Raids, trainers are confronted with a challenging moment when the Raid boss becomes enraged. This transformative state bolsters the offensive and defensive capabilities of the Raid boss, increasing the difficulty of the battle. However, trainers now possess a valuable tool to counter this formidable state — the Purified Gem.

To counteract the formidable power of an enraged Raid boss, trainers need to tap the button located on the lower left of the screen, where the Purified Gem option awaits. This interaction neutralizes the heightened offensive and defensive capabilities, restoring balance to the battle and increasing you and your team’s chances of success.

How To Get Purified Gems?

To obtain Purified Gems, trainers must battle against the forces of Team GO Rocket. By defeating Team GO Rocket Grunts, Leaders, and the notorious Giovanni in Poke Stops or Team Go Rocket Balloons, trainers have the chance to collect Shadow Shards. These valuable shards are then used  in the creation of a Purified Gem. By amassing four Shadow Shards, trainers can utilize the Shard Refiner, a tool that combines the shards to form a Purified Gem.

Trainers can carry up to 10 Purified Gems at a time, ensuring they are well-prepared for their shadowy raid boss encounters.

With the introduction of Shadow Raids and Shadow Raid Bosses in Pokémon Go’s Rising Shadows event, trainers are in for an exhilarating and challenging experience. The world of Pokémon Go continues to expand, offering new opportunities to test your skills, gather your friends, and embark on epic battles against corrupted Shadow Pokemon.

Shadow Raids bring a new level of intensity and excitement to raiding. Assemble your team of trainers and prepare to face off against the powerful Shadow Raid Bosses, whose dark aura and enhanced strength make them formidable adversaries. The Rising Shadows event opens the door to a wider range of Shadow Legendary Pokémon, including the elusive Mewtwo, granting trainers the chance to add these powerful beings to their collection.
