Mastering Pokemon Go Storage: The Perfect Item Bag Management Strategy

Mastering Pokemon Go Storage: The Perfect Item Bag Management Strategy

Are you ready to catch them all? If you’re a Pokémon Go player, having the right items in your inventory can make all the difference. From Poké Balls to berries, lures, and more, each item has its own unique purpose. In this article, we’ll explore the optimal number of each item to keep in your storage, so you’ll always be prepared to catch the rarest of Pokémon, earn the most XP, and become the ultimate trainer.

If you’re anything like me, you know that catching Pokemon and adding them to your collection is one of the most exciting parts of playing Pokemon Go. However, it’s important to remember that managing your inventory is just as crucial to your success in the game. So, grab your Item Bag, and let’s get started!

Reasons Why Item Bag Management Is Important In Pokemon Go

Maximize Your Storage Space

Every trainer has a limited amount of storage space for items, Pokemon, and even eggs. By managing your item bag wisely, you can make the most of that space and avoid having to constantly delete items to make room for new ones. This also prevents you from not being able to spin PokeStops because your Item Bag is full.

Way Too Many Items You DON’T Need

With limited inventory space, it’s important to make sure you’re not wasting valuable space on resources like having way too many Pokeballs, potions, and revives.

Plan for Special Events

Whether it’s a Community Day or a special raid event, managing your inventory can help you prepare for upcoming events. By saving up the right items and Pokemon in advance, you can make the most of these special events and reap the rewards.

Poke Ball

Used to catch Pokemon. Recommended to keep a few hundred at all times.

How Many To Have In Storage?

The amount of Poke Balls you will want to carry on you will vary depending on the situation. For those of us who make use of a device like the Pokemon Go Plus device, which will only make use of Poke Balls for catching wild Pokemon (for now), you may want to carry a minimum of 200 at any given time. Prior to and during events such as Community Day, where you’ll be using several incenses back to back, I’d like to have closer to 600 Poke Balls.

Great Ball

An improved version of the Poke Ball, with a higher catch rate.

How Many To Have In Storage?

I do not want to carry ANY Great Balls. If you have access to gyms and open gifts on a daily basis, you should have plenty of Ultra Balls handy which renders Great Balls quite useless. They’re also not compatible with Pokemon Go Plus devices which further reduces their usability.

Ultra Ball

An even stronger version of the Poke Ball, with an even higher catch rate.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Keep about 150-200 Ultra Balls handy as they’re useful for events like Spotlight Hour or Community Day where you’d be using them on higher CP or Shiny Encounters. These balls are also not compatible with Pokemon Go Plus devices but unlike Great Balls, they are very useful for catching Pokemon during events.

Razz Berry

A type of berry that makes it easier to catch Pokemon.

How Many To Have In Storage?

I do not use any Razz Berries to catch Pokemon outside of using them to complete Research Tasks. However, you do not throw out your Razz Berries unless you really need to make space and urgently. Always feed them to friendly Gym defender Pokemon or to your Buddy Pokemon.

Nanab Berry

A type of berry that can be fed to a wild Pokemon to calm it down, making it less likely to move around during a catch attempt. This berry can be particularly helpful when trying to catch fast or unpredictable Pokemon, as it can increase the chances of a successful catch.

How Many To Have In Storage?

I will rarely use Nanab Berries  to catch Pokemon outside of using them to complete Research Tasks or occasionally for catching Shadow Pokemon. Like the Razz Berries, you do not throw out your Nanab Berries unless you really need to make space and urgently. Always feed them to friendly Gym defender Pokemon or to your Buddy Pokemon.

Pinap Berry

A type of berry that doubles the amount of candy received from catching a Pokemon.

How Many To Have In Storage?

I like to keep about 120 Pinap Berries on hand. These berries are very useful as they double up your catch candy. This is great during events like Community Day where you can really maximize your candy collection. I try not to feed these to gyms or buddy Pokemon unless I have more than I need.

Silver Pinap Berry

A rare and valuable berry that combines the effects of a Razz Berry and a Pinap Berry, making it easier to catch a Pokemon and doubling the amount of candy received.

How Many To Have In Storage?

I try to keep about 50 Silver Pinap Berries in storage. These are mostly used for raid bosses where the extra candy for the raid boss is important to me.

Golden Razz Berry

A rare and powerful berry that greatly increases the chance of catching a Pokemon, and also fully restores its motivation when fed to a gym defender.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Keep about 120-150 Golden Razz Berries as there are many uses for these golden berries. There will be shiny Pokemon or raid bosses that you really want to catch and the Golden Razz Berries will help significantly there. They are also used to fully restore gym defenders and can be done so even remotely, so if you want to keep your gym, this berry will definitely give your Pokemon some staying power.

Lure Module

An item that attracts Pokemon to a PokeStop for 30 minutes.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Keep 10 or less of each lure module on hand as you’ll mostly be using them during events. Save your elemental lure modules for times where you need to evolve Pokemon that require it.

Incense

An item that attracts Pokemon to the player’s location for 30 minutes.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Keep up to 8 Incense but be sure to always have at least one on hand as you never know when you might need it! Some players will use them only during special events, sometimes if I head into the busy metropolitan area, I will turn it on just to further increase the already higher spawns.

Lucky Egg

An item that doubles the amount of XP earned for 30 minutes.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Keep about 10 Lucky Eggs as you’ll be using them for a variety of strategies to maximize your XP gains. Some of these may include days you are going on a lot of raids, mass evolving Pokemon, during double XP events, and other events like community day.

Star Piece

an item that doubles the amount of Stardust earned for 30 minutes.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Keep about 10 Star Pieces on hand and use them mostly for events like Community Day or double Star Dust events.

Raid Pass

An item that allows the player to participate in a raid battle.

How Many To Have In Storage?

You get a FREE Raid Pass every day you visit a Gym, but you can only have one on hand at most. Be sure to use these daily if possible just so you can collect another one for another raid the following day.

Premium Battle Pass

An item that allows the player to participate in premium battles, which offer increased rewards and a greater challenge.

How Many To Have In Storage?

You should always be using these if you’re an active Go Battle League player. This helps you gain additional rewards and there is no reason why you should be saving them!

Remote Raid Pass

An item that allows the player to participate in a raid battle from a remote location.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Keep up to 3 at any given time for raid invitations from friends. Friends could invite to you regional exclusive raid bosses and more!

Incubator

An item that hatches eggs by walking a certain distance.

How Many To Have In Storage?

I see no reason in keeping extra incubators. You can use these as you go to hatch eggs faster.

Super Incubator

An improved version of the incubator that hatches eggs at a faster rate.

How Many To Have In Storage?

I will also recommend using these as you go and not keeping too many. Be sure to use these on higher km eggs like 12km or 10km just to reduce the distance required on them.

Rare Candy

A special item that can be used to instantly level up a Pokemon by one stage, regardless of its current level.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Having a ton of rare candy in storage is definitely a pit that any of us can fall into. Over time, I’ve learned to try to keep no rare candy in stock as they will always come from raids, Go Battle League, and events. Be sure to always use them on Legendary or Mythical Pokemon, as walking them or catching them for candy is extremely difficult.

Rare XL Candy

A special type of candy that is used to power up and evolve Pokémon to their highest levels. Rare XL Candy is extremely rare and difficult to obtain, but is highly valuable for trainers who are looking to maximize the strength of their Pokémon.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Unlike Rare Candy, I will use these very sparingly and will keep them until I can find a Pokemon I want to use them for. This includes max IV Pokemon that are difficult to find candy for. You don’t necessarily need to save these up, but certainly do not blow them on Pokemon you do not need to use them for.

Gifts

Gifts are items that can be obtained by spinning PokeStops. Players can send Gifts to their friends to increase friendship level and for them to get valuable resources like Poke Balls.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Gifting is an important aspect in the game. You will always try to have as many as you can. You can hold up to 20 at any given time unless there’s a special event that allows you hold more. So don’t delete gifts, send them all to your friends and then get more!

Max Potion

An item that fully restores a Pokemon’s HP.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Keep up to 120 Max Potions. I do not use these post-raid as raids will often give you potions back as a reward. I do use them to recover from Gym Battles and Team Go Rocket battles.

Max Revive

An item that fully restores a fainted Pokemon’s HP and also revives it.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Keep up to 80 Max Revives as you will only be using them for recovering Pokemon from getting knocked out of Gyms, battling Gyms, and Team Go Rocket. Raids will often give you revives as a reward.

Revive

An item that revives a fainted Pokemon, but only restores half of its HP.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Because of how easy it is to attain Max Revives, especially through opening gifts and spinning Gym photo discs, you should delete all your regular Revives. Keep 0.

Potion

An item that restores a Pokemon’s HP by 20 points. Recommended to keep a few hundred at all times, especially in the early stages of the game when Pokemon may have lower HP.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Because of how easy it is to attain Max Potions, especially through opening gifts and spinning Gym photo discs, you should delete all your regular Revives. Keep 0.

Super Potion

An improved version of the Potion that restores a Pokemon’s HP by 50 points.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Because of how easy it is to attain Max Potions, especially through opening gifts and spinning Gym photo discs, you should delete all your regular Revives. Keep 0.

Hyper Potion

An even stronger version of the Potion that restores a Pokemon’s HP by 200 points. Recommended to keep a few dozen at all times, especially as players progress to higher levels and encounter tougher opponents.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Similar to all the other potions and revives, you probably won’t have to keep any Hyper Potions despite how well it heals most Pokemon. Despite how good it is, it still isn’t as good as Max Potions or Max Revives, so you should try not to keep any Hyper Potions with the exception being you are low on Max Potions or Max Revives.

Poffin

An item that increases a Pokemon’s friendship level by a significant amount, which can lead to additional benefits such as increased CP gains during battles.

How Many To Have In Storage?

You should try to use all the Poffin that you have just to increase your buddy level with some of your favorite or most useful Pokemon. Use them all!

Fast TM

An item that allows the player to teach a Pokemon a new Fast Attack move.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Keep about 30 Fast TMs just so you can cycle through and get new fast attacks for Pokemon you either raid for or during Community Day. Some days, you will catch many of the same Pokemon that you want to keep, and you may decide to change the Fast Attacks on several of them.

Charged TM

An item that allows the player to teach a Pokemon a new Charged Attack move.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Charged TMs are much more useful than Fast TMs and you may want to keep quite a few more. I recommend keeping about 100. Throughout the year, I will catch a lot of Shadow Pokemon that have high IVs and will be great for battle. Unfortunately, it only knows the charged attack: Frustration – which ironically is frustrating for me! So, occasionally Niantic will announce events where you can change frustration through the use of a Charged TM. Many times, it will take you several charged TMs before you will get the one that you need. You will also be using Charged TMs for newly caught raid bosses and other Pokemon throughout the year, so be sure to have enough on hand to account for that.

Elite Fast TM

An even rarer version of the Fast TM that allows the player to teach a Pokemon a legacy or exclusive Fast Attack move.

How Many To Have In Storage?

These are extremely hard to come by, so keep as many as you can get your hands on and use them only for Pokemon that you will be using for battles often.

Elite Charged TM

An even rarer version of the Charged TM that allows the player to teach a Pokemon a legacy or exclusive Charged Attack move.

How Many To Have In Storage?

These are extremely hard to come by, so keep as many as you can get your hands on and use them only for Pokemon that you will be using for battles often. Pokemon like Mewtwo or Metagross are among the best ones. It is also recommended to use them on Max IV copies of the Pokemon.

Sun Stone

A special evolution item that can be used to evolve certain Pokémon. When used on specific Pokémon, it causes them to evolve into a new form, such as Gloom into Bellossom or Sunkern into Sunflora.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Aside from special events where a Pokemon that requires the evolution item to evolve is spawning a lot, such as Community Day, I will keep less than 10 of these.

King’s Rock

An evolution item that can be used to evolve certain Pokémon. When held by a specific Pokémon during a trade, it causes them to evolve into a new form, such as Poliwhirl into Politoed or Slowpoke into Slowking.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Aside from special events where a Pokemon that requires the evolution item to evolve is spawning a lot, such as Community Day, I will keep less than 10 of these.

How Many To Have In Storage?

Sinnoh Stone

How Many To Have In Storage?
