The March Community Day in Pokemon Go is a highly anticipated event for many trainers around the world. This event provided players with the opportunity to catch, evolve, and power up their Slowpoke including the rare Galarian Slowpoke. Included with the event will be exclusive moves and other cool bonuses.
The event will take place on March 18th, 2023 (Saturday), from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm in your local time.
One of the most significant benefits of the Slowpoke Community Day is the exclusive move that trainers could teach their Slowpoke. During the event, if players evolved their Slowpoke into Slowbro or Slowking, or Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowbro or Galarian Slowking they could learn the move “Surf,” a powerful water-type move.
During the this year’s Dopey Pokemon Community Day, rather than having to catch 30 Poison type Pokemon to evolve your Galarian Slowpoke, you will instead have to catch 30 Psychic types. We expect there to be a surge of Physic types to be seen on March 18th.

3X XP Bonus
The 3x XP event in Pokemon Go is always a highly anticipated event for many trainers across the globe. This event provided players with the opportunity to earn TRIPLE the experience points for catching Pokemon. These bonuses are hard to come by, so be sure to to have your lucky eggs handy and take full advantage of those 3 hours. This is a great opportunity for you to level up or catch up to friends!
2X Candy Bonus
Ah, candy in Pokemon Go. The sweet, sugary goodness that we all crave, both in-game and in real life. But let’s not underestimate the importance of candy in this game. It may seem trivial, but it’s essential for trainers who want to level up their Pokemon and make them stronger. Without getting all the candy you can get, you won’t be able to unlock your Pokemon’s full potential.
Double candy events are also rare in the game, so be sure to take advantage of this. Candy isn’t just essential for evolving your Pokemon. It’s also necessary for powering them up. As you progress further in the game, you will be delighted to know that you had saved up candy that you didn’t think you’d need before.
Double Your Chance of Receiving XL Candy
This portion of the bonuses will only apply to players over level 31.
For those who are unfamiliar, XL candy is a special type of candy that is used to power up a Pokemon beyond its usual maximum level. This fairly recent feature is essential for players who want to make their Pokemon stronger and more competitive in battles and raids. In addition, if having a maxed out Pokemon defending a gym isn’t a flex, then I don’t know what is.
XL candy is also essential for trainers who want to compete in Master League battles. This league is the most challenging in the game, and it’s where players face off against the strongest opponents. To be successful in this league, trainers need to have Pokemon with high CP and a high level. XL candy helps them achieve this by allowing them to power up their Pokemon beyond their maximum level, making them even more competitive in battles.
Normally, obtaining XL candy is not something that can be done easily or quickly. Walking your buddy Pokemon or catching Pokemon doesn’t always net you XL candy. Generally, it takes a substantial amount of XL candy to power up a Pokemon beyond its usual maximum level.
To give you an idea, here’s a breakdown of the XL candy required to max out some of my favorite Pokemon:
- Dragonite: 296 XL candy
- Tyranitar: 296 XL candy
- Machamp: 296 XL candy
- Gyarados: 296 XL candy
- Mewtwo: 296 XL candy
- Garchomp: 296 XL candy
- Salamence: 296 XL candy
So now that you have a better idea of how much XL candy you’ll be needing and how difficult it is to get them, definitely take advantage of this bonus.
Special Research Story
Field Notes: Slow and Slower
Like all other Community Days, Niantic will offer a special research story for $0.99 (USD) which will likely offer additional Slowpoke candy and other rewards. This quest will have its own storyline, characters, and challenges, making it feel like a mini-adventure within the larger game.
Be Sure to Use Incense
Incense is like catnip to Pokemon. It can help you catch a shiny Slowpoke that will otherwise be very difficult to find outside of Community Day. This means you probably won’t miss out on catching yourself a brand-new shiny Slowpoke, which is basically the holy grail of the event. And let’s be real, who doesn’t want to show off their shinies to their friends? Plus, with a higher number of Pokemon spawning during Community Days, using incense will increase your chances of catching even more of those Slowpokes.
As for lure modules, they’re like the party favors of the game. Placed on a PokeStop, they can attract a variety of Pokemon, making it the perfect tool for maximizing Community Day benefits. And let’s not forget, more Pokemon means more candy, which means you can level up your Pokemon even faster.
Using incense and lure modules during Community Days can really help you make the most out of your experience. And let’s face it, these items are like secret weapons that can give you an edge over your fellow trainers. So, before the Slowpoke Community Day, make sure you stock up on incense and lure modules. And who knows, you might just catch a Shundo and be the envy of the Pokemon Go world.
Slowpoke to Appear in 4-Star Raids
During the March 2023 Community Day, we will see Slowpoke and Galarian Slowpoke appear in 4-Star Raid battles. Additional Slowpoke will spawn near the gym for 30-minutes if you’ve completed the raid. This is a nice addition to the game and effectively acts as a mini-module at your local gyms.
Two Special Trades
With two special trades, trainers can trade for two rare, shiny, or legendary Pokemon. This is great for re-rolling stats, especially for Shiny Pokemon that have low IVs.
